Hi guys, this is my first post so please be gentle with me!

What is the current thinking on a budget cartridge under £100. My system is a systemdek turntable with a rega 3 arm. Arcam pre & power and B& W DM603 speakers (soon to be replaced by a bookshelf option!)

My music range is very varied. So I need it to cope with everything possible.

Thanks in advance!

If you find anything let me know. I've been looking for about 2 years. Most sub £200 is overpriced junk. Goldring and Ortofon, are very bright, treble happy sounding at this end of their range these days, and Audio Technica cartridges were, and still are bright, or very bright.
B& W DM603 speakers are a bright sounding speaker, not flat response, so a cartridge that is trying to be "flat" would be about right. Nagaoka MP11 was tested a few years ago. Full marks for tracking, and not bad output, but a falling treble response, not flat response, maybe too dull, even with bright speakers. That is one that I thought of, but never got around to buying.
Good luck.

I found the Rega Bias partnered very well with the arm (I've got a much modded RB300 arm on a Rega Planar 3). It's about £70 these days. If you can stretch to £120, though, the Elys has much more depth. As with all cartridges, whether they sound bright or dull will depend a lot on the overall character of your system. But both of these cartridges seemed to partner well, both had heaps of detail, and the Elys had nice depth and pleasant subtlety.

Well as I said, good luck in your search. I've never seen a good word printed about Rega Cartridges before. Some people like the Grado Black, I don't think it is all that good, but not too pricey.
