Musical Fidelity A5 cdp.
Musical Fidelity A5 amp.
B&W 805 Nautilus speakers
Chord Cables.

Hi People,
First post here, so go easy.
Here's the thing, I love my set up, the sound is sublime, but I've been delaying & delaying this, I think it's about time
I got into the streaming thing.
I've been reading up online & I think I'm gonna take the plunge, the question is this.....Will the Linn Majik ds out perform my A5 as a source?
Any input welcome, thanks guys.

I'm sorry no one can help yet. Perhaps too many of us are still stuck in the past? Or wholly satisfied with what we have?

Interesting that no one has replied yet, and it's been a while. There are some good things about streaming - not having to find and load CDs, and the CDs can be stored away. It's also possible to have other material (though not usually from SACDs) such as DVD-A and DVD soundtrack rips, as well as downloads. You can also run a multi room system with relative ease, and be playing the same or different "CD"s at the same time. The not so good things are that you need some form of data storage, perhaps a computer which is on all the time, and you may need to install and configure a LAN.

Re sound quality I believe that the best streaming sources can equal or outperform many CD players for sound quality, but if you already have a very good CD player this is less certain.

I have supposedly lesser kit than the Linn devices mentioned. I have gone for streaming, and use a Squeezebox with a DAC. I took one DAC back because it sounded no better than my Marantz CD player.

Possibly if you don't have too many CDs it's easier to stick with CD playback, as the interface is easy to understand, and configuring systems is easy.

OTOH there can be a lot of benefits from streamed music. I do wish the software to drive it had better interfaces though, and high reliability. I use iPeng and Squeezepad with my system - OK - but not perfect, and software updates on the music server sometimes bring it down, which is a pain.

What you can also do is, keep your MF cd player and first a buy a cheaper streamer. So you can get used to the concept and sound. And if this works out for you , the next step can be, upgrading your streamer with a good DAC. In in the end, you might wanna get rid of your Musical Fidelity. ( Although, I doubt you really want :)
