i have the chance to purchase a project p2 turntable with ortofon 510mk2 cartridge in good working order for £90
this seems to me like a good deal however the supplied record clamp is absent and im wonderinhg how crucial this is to that turntable
i have owned a cheaper project debut mk1 in the past and was happy-did intend to get a new rega rp1 for around £230 but this seems like a better option-what do you think-i have no user knowledge of this turntable/cartridge
any advice most welcome

Sounds like a great deal. The clamp tended to tighten the sound but around 50% of users preferred the deck without. Even if you bought it as a spare part, it will still only cost you £30 so the deck's still a bargain!

It's difficult for us to make a recommendation as we are the distributor. For what it's worth, Pro-ject models are designed using Ortofon cartridges and the VTA is set at 18mm which applies to most MM and MC models.

I hope this helps.
