Hi.

Can anyone tell me exactly what is meant by RDS on a modern tuner? Can't seem to find much info on what it actually is on a Google search.
Specifically I am trying to establish the benefits of a Denon Tuner TU260 II and the original Denon TU260. Is RDS really useful or will it affect the sound quality of an FM signal.

Thanks

Sleeper

Wikipedia is your friend: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Data_System

According to the above page, "Radio Data System, or RDS, is a standard from the European Broadcasting Union for sending small amounts of digital information using conventional FM radio broadcasts."

So basically, when you tune in to Radio 1, for example, on an FM radio, this is how your radio knows that it's "Radio 1" and not just 99.7MHz.

So, to cut a long story short, RDS will not theoretically affect the sound at all. It's purely a way of displaying things like the radio station name on the display on your tuner.

Hope this helps!
