To the people who said "no"...
ok... those people who said "No"... why, just out of interest? Are you 100% happy with your setup?

it must start to even off somewhere...
yep i would def agree with that as well, although can anyone tell me where the roll off point would be, as in if you had a graph with money spent along the bottom and then musical performance up the side (i know you could never create such a graph) but when in your opinion would you have to spend an awful lot more money to better the performance?

yes and no i'd say. Its important to have money to spend on hifi equipment for a few reasons i can think of- off the top of my head.

Wot if something gets damaged, this happens to the best of equipment and i for one would struggle to replace my setup/ one component even(!) if something happened and it stopped working properly. I no uve said your happy with your system and i wouldnt wish anythin to happen to your kit but u never no wot could go wrong/ get spilt into it etc.

In my case, i realy could do with a better cd player, its seen better days an its JVC- not the best brand in the world when it comes to hifi seperates as we all no!? However i realy dont have the money and i no for sure a better cd seperate will improve the sound quality.

All in all its always good to have loadsa' money anyway

As you get older your hearing deteriorates losing sensitivity, high end frequency and probably tinitus to boot. So spending thousands is unlikely to bring you huge increases in the quality of what you are listening to.
However picking and putting systems together is fun . Same with building or upgrading PC's but that also drives the wife mad. She just doesn't get it.

too right mate...

I've got to say I can find top notch gear for a few bills each component, BUT

I have been cursed my friends, I was foolish to listen to some Harbeth speakers. Now I'm always going to wish I had a few thousand bones to spend on them.

I totally agree, I doesn't matter about the cost or the brand. What really matters is the sound and if you are happy with your systm or not. If you spend all the money you have on one amp and you can't hear the difference between that and an iPod, you need to clear the earwax out :)BTW Radiohead's album "OK Computer" is very, very good

 Re: hi end gear
Hi my name is Randy and I'm a hifiholic! There Ive said it. Now I'm surely on the road to recovery

I put it to you all that Hifi can be as addictive as heroin. I remember many years ago reading Peter Belt's column in HiFi review, where he suggested using Duraglit on your mains plug pins for a better jaw dropping sound. Bugger me if I wasn't on the floor within 5 minuets doing just that. I then sat back and was amazed at the difference. I believe they call it the placebo effect!

Personally speaking I get pleasure not only from listening to a good record but getting it out of the sleeve, giving it a good sniff (you've all done it),and putting it on the turntable...

There is something nice and tangible about seeing a record spinning round. Or maybe its just the fact that I'm an old sod and am clinging onto a bit of my childhood...?

Not 100%. But near enough for me to have stopped spending on speakers and amps.
Now I spend a few quid here and there for components to allow me to fine tune my setup. I'm currently building myself a NOS Tube DAC to compliment my system that's costing me nothing as I'm selling odds and ends to finance the build :)
