General Hi-Fi Discussion:: Best bargain in hifi
Quite a few years ago I bought a Linn Sondek from a guy who had inherited it. He knew it was worth a bit but wanted shot of it. Anyway we haggled and I ended up paying £200 for it. Not too shabby I thought. When I picked it up it had an ittok arm and mint asak cartridge! Bargain

I sold it about ten years ago and really regret it. And yes I did make a healthy profit.

New Members/Introductions:: Looking to get a Mini stereo
HI there! I am looking to buy a mini stereo which may turn into home theatre in the future. It's primary function will be for the use of my iPod, with movies secondary.I do not use CD's or records.I like to listen to hard rock/grunge and also accoustic. The room is 10-12 square metres with hard floors and a 2.5 metre high ceiling.I am looking at getting the Marantz NR 1603 and pair it with B+W 685's.Is this a suitable combination? I am also looking at the Monitor Audio BR-2s,and the KEF Q300's . If not what other amp /speaker combination do you recommend? I have a budget of around $1000 .It's primary function will be for the use of my iPod, with movies secondary.I do not use CD's or records.I like to listen to hard rock/grunge and also accoustic. I am in China so my options are limited to what I can see in the few HiFi stores here or on taobao.com (Chinese ebay).Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.

CD/SACD/DVD/Minidisc Players:: How Do I Connect A CD Player To My Aiwa System?
Hi,

Ok thanks for the info.
I'll just plug a CD into any Audio In pair then, there are a few of them on there under the 'TV' and Audio' headings.

With regard to the Phono sockets where the record deck currently is, it specifies next to it that it is for the Aiwa record deck, but can also be used as an auxilliary input, hence my original assumption.

Thanks,
Dave

Home Cinema, TV & HDTV:: KEF Reference Series + Pioneer VSA-E06 ... Support needed
Hi all,

I have a home cinema system in my London flat which isn't working fully. Here is my set-up:

Optoma projector (with HDMI & Digital audio cables)

X-Box 360 (for over the internet SKY and gaming etc)

Humax PVR-9300T (Freeview box)

Pioneer VSA-E06 Amplifier

KEF TDM 23F (front speakers)
KEF TDM 23C (center speaker)
KEF TDM 34DS (rear speakers)
KEF TDM 45B (active subwoofer)

I also have a spare Amp which I could use: Pioneer VSX-D510; but I lost the remote for it years ago!

When we watch TV we only ever get the front pair working.
When we play games or watch DVDs we get the front pair and rear pair working.

I know that the center speaker is working (as I have plugged it into one of the front speaker channels on the Amp), but I can't confirm that the Sub is working as it has never been used.

Now, do I assume that the Xbox 360 isn't outputting 5.1 sound? Even when we watch DVDs?

I'm thinking of getting rid of the system and replacing with a (much smaller!) Bose 5.1 speaker + amp kit, or should I persevere and get the KEF working fully? After all, it sounds fantastic and has great clarity even when turned up to 11. Unless someone wants to tell me old home cinema gear is worth a small fortune?

Cheers,
Phil

Home Cinema, TV & HDTV:: New system advice needed
Hello all,

I am new to this forum and was wondering if I could get a little advice regarding a new speaker system. My budget is up to about 600 pounds. I have been looking at a few home cinema systems but also have been looking at those Logitech Z906 PC speakers which I have heard sound rather decent for the money, I want my PC, XBOX 360 and TV coupled up to it, and I was wondering if some of you guys could recommend a good cinema system or alternative for my needs, Please could you help me.

Gadz
