Heybrook HB2 - silent speakers [by lanzafame]

Loudspeakers:: Heybrook HB2 - silent speakers
Hello

An over enthusiastic friend recently used my hifi (technics SU 7700 amp with heybrook HB2 speakers) and although the music was being played loud, i didn't think it was insanely loud. Now however, the speakers don't reproduce any sound.

i have checked the amp, it works fine with other speakers so i assume the speakers have blown.

there is no visible damage to the cones or tweeters.

Does anyone know what actually happens when a speaker blows, or if it's worthwhile trying to fix it? not sure if i should write this off, or get speakers repaired, or try and sell the cones and tweeters separately .

Any advice greatly appreciated!

thanks

tom

Amplifiers/Receivers:: Power Amp for Leak 3090s
I should probably mention that my only source is my music PC, which has a Saffire Pro 40 soundcard. I will be buying a new turntable at some point (I'm waiting for a Pro-Ject Debut 111 to turn up on ebay for cheaps) but I can always run it through the computer so a preamp isn't too important other than for level matching.

Turntables & Vinyl:: cartridge alignment help
My friend takes his Rega to dealer to have a new cartridge fitted. If he is buying the cartridge from the dealer, it is fitted free. £40 Seems a bit much. You have no choice really. If you don't have a cartridge alignment protractor, you'll have to pay. Turntables that don't have a detachable headshell on the arm can be a real pain to set up. You might damage the cartridge. For £40, I'd expect the dealer to do a perfect job though. If I were you I'd buy a cartridge alignment protractor, just to check the dealers work. Some cartridges are more awkward to fit than others. The alignment is very important though. Bias is nearly always a bit wrong on most decks. Cartridge alignment protractor can be dowloaded for free, from some sites. You'll have to look. What cartridge is it, out of interest? Mike.

Why not to go for home theater systems as they will suit you really to fit into your music and cinema demands.
Cables, Interconnects & Mains Conditioning:: Help with Turntable plug to Amp socket mismatch ???
Hi , If anyone knows a solution (Or specific part to buy). I have JVC QL-A2 Turtable , and a JVC JA-S22 Amp. The plug and socket are shown in the picture. But essentially the plug is too large for the socket. And the turntable has no ground lead to attach to the amp. Any ideas ?? Many thanks. (photo attached)
