KEF Reference Series + Pioneer VSA-E06 ... Support needed [by ptharris]

Home Cinema, TV & HDTV:: KEF Reference Series + Pioneer VSA-E06 ... Support needed
Hi all,

I have a home cinema system in my London flat which isn't working fully. Here is my set-up:

Optoma projector (with HDMI & Digital audio cables)

X-Box 360 (for over the internet SKY and gaming etc)

Humax PVR-9300T (Freeview box)

Pioneer VSA-E06 Amplifier

KEF TDM 23F (front speakers)
KEF TDM 23C (center speaker)
KEF TDM 34DS (rear speakers)
KEF TDM 45B (active subwoofer)

I also have a spare Amp which I could use: Pioneer VSX-D510; but I lost the remote for it years ago!

When we watch TV we only ever get the front pair working.
When we play games or watch DVDs we get the front pair and rear pair working.

I know that the center speaker is working (as I have plugged it into one of the front speaker channels on the Amp), but I can't confirm that the Sub is working as it has never been used.

Now, do I assume that the Xbox 360 isn't outputting 5.1 sound? Even when we watch DVDs?

I'm thinking of getting rid of the system and replacing with a (much smaller!) Bose 5.1 speaker + amp kit, or should I persevere and get the KEF working fully? After all, it sounds fantastic and has great clarity even when turned up to 11. Unless someone wants to tell me old home cinema gear is worth a small fortune?

Cheers,
Phil

Home Cinema, TV & HDTV:: New system advice needed
Hello all,

I am new to this forum and was wondering if I could get a little advice regarding a new speaker system. My budget is up to about 600 pounds. I have been looking at a few home cinema systems but also have been looking at those Logitech Z906 PC speakers which I have heard sound rather decent for the money, I want my PC, XBOX 360 and TV coupled up to it, and I was wondering if some of you guys could recommend a good cinema system or alternative for my needs, Please could you help me.

Gadz

Samsung PS50C and 5.1 speakers. [by ortonnorth]

Home Cinema, TV & HDTV:: Samsung PS50C and 5.1 speakers.
Hi.

I'm currently looking for an affordable set of active 5.1 speakers for Samsung Plasma TV PS50C680G5KXXU.
The TV is supporting Dolby Digital Plus and have optical dts 2.0+Digital output at the back.

Link to TV specs here:

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv ... ma-tv/PS50C680G5KXXU-spec

I don't really want to buy any AV receiver as they are far too expensive for me and I'm not interested in DVD/BlueRay home theatre as I'm using my PS3 for movies and and Sky TV.
Therefore I thought that if all AV devices are connected via HDMI the TV should be able to pass Dolby Digital signal through optical out to 5.1 speakers (tell me if I'm wrong).

Unfortunately I'm not too sure what kind of speakers I should get for my TV? Does any active 5.1 speakers with optical input will be OK, or do I need to find one that will work in certain Dolby standard?

I know that it will sound like a heresy here, but I'm not looking for a high end system. Good PC class speakers should be fine for me.

I'm looking for a solution up to £100.00

Any help will be much appreciated.

Home Cinema, TV & HDTV:: Factory Refurbished?
Hi Sara,

I have some experience with www.techforless.com.
My buddy bought a digital SLR camera from them prior to last christmas and loved it. I believe it was a Nikon and he got a great deal.

So when black friday came I checked the site out and they had some really great deals on refurbished computers. I believe the whole package with the monitor and everything was just under $200. Its not a super fast machine but it does what I need it to for instant messaging, checking emails and such.

They have some pretty cool deals and I am currently eyeing up there refurb'd ipads ( currently around $300).

AV amp - testing a single speaker. [by Fido]

Home Cinema, TV & HDTV:: AV amp - testing a single speaker.
Illustrating how clueless I am about how things work!

I connected a single centre speaker to a main speaker connection on an AV amp., then linked to a CD player to test that it was working. No sound. Then connected it to the centre speaker slot. No sound.

Is this because there are no speaker settings on an AV amp that will enable a single speaker to work?

Hope this makes sense to someone.
