It is amasing how easy it is to be sold to. We are told that DAB is the way to go yet if you look at the figures DAB uses MP2 which only seems to work anywhere near it's best at 224kbps, whereas almost all stereo stations in the UK use 128kbps or less. I just does not add up and the result is sonics little better than AM radio. FM broadcasts of nearly 30 years ago sounded far better.
I for one think that DRAB, as I shall refer to it in future, is pathetic. I have just invested a considerable amount of money in a new Canadian FM tuner made by Magnum Dynalab which has an analogue front end and the sound on, for instance, BBC Rdio 3's Late Junction is quite astonishing. I am sure that anyone who listened to this tuner linked with a high quality reference system would confine their DAB tuner to a skip. But don't take my word for it audition one for yourselves and hear what you are missing, or maybe you like DRAB Attach file: md90sm.jpg (18.31 KB)

I'm afraid like most problems in society, blame Jo Public.
Jo doesn't give a damn about sound quality and wouldn't know a decent sampling rate if it bit him on his chavvy backside. However give Jo a wide choice of pap, hundreds of presets, flashy station info (basically RDS with some bells and whistles), and - as you suggest - a well lauched gadget and...bingo! Manufacturers want profit, not to wage a hifi cruscade and will repond to our scummy Jo Public fellow citizens. DF
