Come on boys.
It's bank holiday, I don't want to spend my evening moderating...
Please keep things non-personal.

Hi,
Not at all my bag that.
However, I know some friendly users at this forum:
http://thehifisubjectivist.noadforum.com/index.php
that certainly will have some answers.

Unusually for me, Beethoven.
Piano Sonatas. Beautifully componsed, performed (by Alfred Brendel) and recorded.

There are other audio forums with greater traffic.
Please feel at liberty to try these too.
I'll lock this thread, though any threads constructively discussing different forums will of course be allowed to roll on.

780's!
My first speakers were the 780SE's! In fact I got rid of them only last year (they had been relegated to the loft). More of that in a mo'...

Re. your amp, I've been totally hooked on NVA for a number of years. Incredible realism (including warmth) in tone, space and dynamics. You may like them if you're used to the honesty of studio equipment. NVA manufacture a range of integrated and pre-power amps (from around £300 upwards). By far the best sound-per-pound value I've found. NVA trade new and checked-over used kit only on ebay.
They offer a full money-back if you don't like so there's no risk. Also should you wish to upgrade to a new NVA amp the company buys back your old amp at the price you paid them (I've just done this (again)). So their sales policy is as good as their engineering!
For further choice from my point of view, those who like NVA also seem to like Exposure amps.

Back to speakers...I upgraded from the Missions to Dynaudio Audience 62 in 2003 and then to the Audience 82 in 2005. Both excellent, the 82's being more warm and rounded than the 62s. (Though now available only as used). To be honest, the Missions, though inferior to both of those Dynaudio floorstanders in all respects, were not massively outplayed, and I regularly wheeled them out for regular try-outs.
This year I moved on to the new NVA Cube 1, which are very good across the board.
Also, Royd speakers (used on ebay) are very well respected, and have a pleasing warmth to them.

Hope that's given you some new leads.

Yes (see ebay for phono plugs) and yes.
Well done with the win!

It's down to the old impedance issue again.
Your Sony system has a built in amp. It may be able to cope with 4 speakers but only if all 4 speakers are each of an unusually high impendance rating (eg i would think 16 ohms).
There is a piece here that explains:

The S9s figure of 16ohm is with reference to it max power output into headphones of 16ohm impedence. With higher impedence headphones, and in accordance with ohm's law, the power output will be lower, into lower impedence headphones the output will be higher.
Power output of any amplifier is relative to the resistance offered by headphones (or speakers). That is why power output figures are usually given 'into x ohms'.

Your Klipsch have 18ohms so will draw slightly less than the 29mW figure given in the S9s specs.
This is not a problem (the impedence of some headphones can be more like 100ohms).
The problem with power-impedance comes when the impedence of a speaker (or headphone?) is too low for the amplifier and the resulting current draw can be too high for the amplifier, which consequently becomes hot and/or damaged.

I'm sure the 2 bits of kit you mention will work fine together electonically. Your ears will tell you how well they synergise sonically!

All the best,
DF
