In my search for new bells to add to my collection I discovered a foundry in Poland. Undeterred by the language problem I fired off an email. I'm now corresponding with Wojtec whose English is just about getting him by. I'm sending dreadful sketches of the design of a bell. I'm confident that between us we will end up with a delightful example of Polish craftmanship here in my study. I will take great delight in posting a picture of the end result in a few weeks. Isn't the internet great!

The internet is indeed a wonderful resource, I use it all the time at work.
The downside is that the number of 'trades' that I have become a 'Jack' of has increased considerably, while mastery of anything still eludes me.

I'm interested in the bells though, are these for your Hi-Fi?

And will you be getting any whistles?

Nice one! I have often wondered what got me into bells. I visited a foundry in France a few years ago and bought a small handbell as a memento. Eventually I studied the history of bell making and the use of bells. I then decided to build a collection of bells illustrating the different types and uses and examples of bells by famous foundries old and current and around the world. So now under my porch I have old fire engine and other warning bells. A pully rings a visitors bell which might get an invitation to my study where I have about 50 more bells on display. Quite were it will end I have no idea. I'm toying with getting an octave or two of musical handbells to hang on a frame which could be played with mallets. It might just be within my limited talent to create a few pleasant tunes to compete with the CD player et al! I was at the Whitechapel bell foundry earlier this week arranging restoration of a recent acquistion. A walk back along the embankment on a beautiful spring day. I'm enjoying my retirement!
